MEDINAH, Ill. – Two Alabama golfers finished among the top 10 individuals to lead the Alabama women’s golf team to an eighth-place finish Tuesday following the final round of action at the Illini Women’s Golf Invitational at Medinah. Freshman Kynadie Adams led the way as she tied for fourth while senior Sarah Edwards tied for seventh to lead the Crimson Tide to a 54-hole score of 843 (273-283-287).
Adams’ round of 4-under par 68 Tuesday marked the lowest for any UA golfer on the day and gave the Nashville, Tenn., native her third consecutive round in the 60s. She finished the event with an 11-under par 205 (68-69-68). Meanwhile, Edwards held the clubhouse lead entering the day after carding a career-best 36-hole total of 11-under par 133, the second-best two-round score in program history. She finished at 1-over par Tuesday to result in a 10-under par 206 (66-67-73). Benedetta Moresco was the third UA golfer to finish below par at 3-under 213 (69-73-71) and tied for 26th overall.
Isabella van der Biest (70-74-75/219) and Taylor Kehoe (74-74-75/223) rounded out the UA golfers as they tied for 58th and 72nd place, respectively.
Highlights
- Adams became the first UA golfer to record three consecutive sub-70 scores in the same tournament since Benedetta Moresco did so when she claimed medalist honors at The Ally (63-66-67/197)
- She entered her final three holes at 1-under par, but proceeded to record birdies in each of her final three holes to match the season-best score of 68 which was shot in round one
- Moresco caught fire early in the round by recording five birdies over a seven-hole stretch, falling to 3-under par at one point before settling for her 1-under par 71
- Adams (-8, 4.33) ranked second in the field in par 5 holes while Moresco matched the fourth-lowest average on par 4s (-5, 3.83)
- As a team, Alabama finished second in total birdies (61) and was fifth in par 3 (+6, 3.10) and par 4 (-6, 3.96) scoring
- Sarah Edwards was the only Alabama golfer to average under par in par 3 (-1, 2.92), par 4 (-4. 3.87) and par 5 (-5. 4.58) scoring throughout the 54 holes
- Edwards’ opening day total of 11-under par 133 marked the second best 36-hole score in program history
- The Tide’s opening round team score of 273 matched the seventh-lowest round and fifth-best score vs. par in program history
