Junior Brianna Navarrosa tied for third for her second top 3 in her last five starts while sophomore Amari Avery tied for 14th as No. 13 USC’s run at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at Seminole G.C. in Juno Beach, Fla., came to an end Tuesday (Oct. 11).
USC finished the 54-hole stroke play portion of the event in fifth at 2-over 851 (285-288-293), one spot out of Wednesday’s four-team match play finale. No. 2 Wake Forest was first at 19-under, No. 1 Stanford second at 13-under, No. 12 Duke third at 11-under and No. 5 South Carolina fourth at 7-under.
Navarrosa led all Trojans with a tie for third at 5-under 5-under 211 (69-70-72). Not only is it her second top 3 finish in her last five, but her sixth top 22 in her last eight starts.
Avery tied for 14th at 1-under 215 (68-73-74), her third top 23 in three starts.
Sophomore Xin (Cindy) Kou tied for 22nd at 3-over 219 (72-75-72). Her final round is her sixth par 72 this season in nine rounds.
Junior Christine Wang was 28th at 9-over 225 (79-71-75). Her second round marked a season-best, her first sub par effort of the season.
Freshman Catherine Park took 33rd at 14-over 230 (76-74-80).
USC returns to action at the Stanford Intercollegiate at the Stanford G.C., Sept. 21-23.
