Rutgers men’s golf concluded play at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational at the Michigan State-hosted event in Vero Beach, FL. on Monday, finishing the tournament in a tie for 12th place out of 15 teams.
The Scarlet Knights finished with a final score of 845 (-19), with consistent totals of 280, 282 and 283 in the first, second and third rounds, respectively.
Senior captain Xavier Marcoux continued his strong fall, producing the lowest total individually for the Scarlet Knights. The Massachusetts native finished in a tie for 14th place with his performance of 208 (-8). Marcoux had an impressive eagle during round three to highlight his performance. Fellow captain Luke Wells finished next for RU with a solid score of 211 ((-5), good for a tie for 37th place in the event.
Freshman James Newton had one of the best events of his career with a finish of 214 (-2). Newton finished in a tie for 49th place. Junior Rhett Sellers was the last Scarlet Knight to finished under par with a performance of 215 (-1), tied for 53rd place.
Sophomore Weston Jones, finished tied for 62nd place with a score of 217 (+1).
The strong field was highlighted by the tournament winner Drew Salyers of Indiana. He shot a 199 (-17). North Florida finished in first place as a team for the event at 825 strokes (-39).
The Scarlet Knights have concluded their fall season and will return for Big Ten Match play on Friday Feb. 3 in Palm Beach FL.
