Women’s Golf Finishes in 10th Place at Tar Heel Invitational


Final Results

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team finished in 10th place among 14 teams at the Tar Heel Invitational, held at the Governor’s Club in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Spartans were in ninth place going into the final round and posted a 21-over par 309 in the final round to finish in 10th at 30-over par 894 (289-296-309). MSU had been in second place after the first round at 1-over par 289, but struggled in the final two rounds.

Kentucky won the tournament at 4-under par 860, Wake Forest finished in second place at 1-over par 865, North Carolina placed third at 13-over par 877, Tennessee was fourth (18-over par 882) and Duke, Michigan and Tennessee rounded out the top-five teams (19-over par 883).

Fifth year Valery Plata led Michigan State, tying for 16th place at 4-over par 220 (67-75-78).

Sophomore Brooke Biermann and junior Valentina Rossi tied for 33rd place at 9-over par 225. Biermann had the team’s best round on Tuesday with a 2-over par 74.

Sophomore Shannon Kennedy shot a 6-over par 78 in the third round and finished in a tied for 48th place at 12-over par 228 (76-74-78)

Freshman Paula Balanzategui finished in a tie for 60th place with a 15-over par 231 (75-77-79).

Michigan State plays next in the Landfall Tradition at Landfall Country Club in Wilmington, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29.
