No. 11 USC Women's Golf Returns To Stanford Intercollegiate

The No. 11 USC women’s golf team, with one win in three starts this fall, continues the autumn schedule at the long-running Stanford Intercollegiate, Friday through Sunday (Oct. 21-23), at the Stanford G.C. in Stanford, Calif.

The 18-team field includes host Stanford, USC, Arizona State, Baylor, California, Denver, Florida, UC Davis, Georgia, Iowa State, Miami, Northwestern, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Action starts on the par 71, 6,269-yard course with morning waves at 7:30 a.m. PT the first two rounds with afternoon waves at 12 p.m. There is a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.  Results will be available at golfstat.com.

USC last won the tournament in the fall of 2018 at 15-under 837 (272-286-279) with a wire-to-wire victory, winning by 15 strokes. Junior Alyaa Abdulghany led the Trojans with a fourth at 5-under 208. USC posted a three-year win streak at the event between 2012-2014, the final year sharing first with the host Cardinal. Kyung Kim (2013), Jennifer Song (2009) and Lizette Salas (2008) have posted individual wins there for the Trojans.

The Trojans have also won NCAA Regionals at the Stanford G.C. in 2022, 2016 and 2013. Amari Avery was medalist in 2022.

Troy was fifth at the event last year.

Starting for the third straight event will be sophomore Amari Avery, junior Brianna Navarrosa, sophomore Xin (Cindy) Kou, freshman Catherine Park and junior Christine Wang.

The Trojans are led by fifth-year head coach Justin Silverstein and first-year assistant coach Tiffany Joh, the All-American first-teamer and LPGA star from UCLA now in her second year of collegiate coaching.

WINNING AT THE WINDY CITY

After a tough season-opener, USC came roaring back in its second event of the fall season, winning the Windy City Collegiate Classic on Oct. 4 by nine strokes while sophomore Amari Avery won her fourth career individual title by a stroke. It marked both USC’s third team and individual wins at the event. Avery won at 6-under 210 (67-69-74). Fellow sophomore Xin (Cindy) Kou tied for seventh at 3-over 219 (72-75-72).

THE TROJANS IN THE RANKINGS

Amari Avery is the No. 23-ranked golfer in the NCAA per golfweek.com while Xin (Cindy) Kou is No. 67 and Brianna Navarrosa is No. 76.
