STOCKTON, Calif. – The Washington State men’s golf team had a season-high four golfers finish under par in a single round to conclude the first round of the 2022 Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational. The Cougars shot 7-under; 277 to earn a tie for fourth place.
Junior Jaden Cantafio finished the first round in a tie for eighth, as he shot 3-under 68. Cantafio led the way for WSU after he collected four birdies in his first go-around at the Stockton Country Club. Junior Preston Bebich joined Cantafio in the top-20 after he carded 2-under; 69 in the first round to take 16th on the player leaderboard.
Two Cougars posted 1-under; 70 as senior Pono Yanagi and freshman Sam Renner share a tie for 27th on the player leaderboard. This marked the fifth under-par round for Yanagi this season and the second for Renner.
Freshman Daniel Kim shot 2-over; 73 to finish in a tie for 60th after his first round in Northern California.
In his season debut, sophomore Franklin Lydra is representing the Cougars as an individual at the Visit Stockton Invite this week as he carded 3-over; 74 in the first round and finished in a tie for 71st heading into the second round. The Melbourne, Australia native’s front nine included two birdies and an eagle on the 14th hole at the Stockton Country Club.
WSU will begin second round play of the Visit Stockton Invitational four strokes behind the lead, as Grand Canyon University shot 11-under; 273 in their first 18-holes.
The second round will tee off Friday at 8 a.m. with the final round to conclude on Saturday. Fans can follow all the action on GolfStat.com
