No. 12 Alabama Men’s Golf Set to Close Out Fall Campaign at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No.12 Alabama men’s golf team is set to close out its fall slate this weekend at the three-day Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech. The No. 12-ranked Crimson Tide is part of a 13-team field that features seven teams ranked in the nation’s top 20, according to Golfstat.com.

The Tide has enjoyed a successful fall campaign, beginning the by winning the Rod Myers Invitational. UA has not finished lower than fifth place in any event in the 2022-23 campaign, and will be looking to continue the streak of top-five finishes this weekend.

The three-day 54-hole tournament will be held Friday through Sunday at the par 72, 7,017-yard Golf Club of Georgia – Lakeside Course in Alpharetta, Ga. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Lineup

  • The Crimson Tide’s line up will consist of Canon Claycomb, Thomas Ponder, Nick Dunlap, Jonathan Griz and JP Cave
  • Alabama are led by Claycomb and Ponder, who have held spots on the Tide’s lineup in every event this season

    • Claycomb, who ranks No. 17 in the nation according to Golfweek Individual Rank, leads the team with a 68.89 stroke average
    • Ponder has finished in the top two of the Tide’s lineup in all three fall contests, earning a 69.56 stroke average while carding five rounds in the 60s

  • Dunlap has earned top-20 finishes in all three tournaments this season and leads the team with six of his nine rounds in the 60s
  • Junior JP Cave and freshman Jonathan Griz round out the Tide’s starting five for this weekend
  • Senior Tyler Lipscomb will also be competing in the event as an individual

Tournament Preview

  • Originally named The United States Collegiate Championship, The Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational was established in 2005 and became an addition to the collegiate fall schedule in 2010
  • The Crimson Tide has previously competed in the event six times, earning a third-place finish in 2008
  • The 13-team field features seven teams in the nation’s top 20, including six teams from the 2022 NCAA Championship field
