Cougs Have Another Strong Day at the Visit Stockton Invite


STOCKTON, Calif. – The Washington State men’s golf team had four golfers card under par in the second round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational Friday, October 21, as the Cougars finished the round in a tie for fifth place. WSU shot 3-under; 281 during its second go-around at the Stockton Country Club and heads into the final round with a team score of 10-under; 558. 

Freshman Sam Renner posted his career-best 18-hole score in Friday’s second round, as he shot 3-under; 68 in a bogey-free second round. The Bend, Oregon native collected his second under-par score at the Visit Stockton Invitational, while it is his third under-par round of the fall. 

Junior Preston Bebich shot 2-under; 69 for his second under-par round of the Visit Stockton Invite. Bebich and Renner lead the Cougars in a tie for 13th place; heading into the final round 4-under; 138. 

Senior Pono Yanagi captured his sixth under-par round of the season after he carded 2-under; 69. Yanagi jumped 7 places on the player leaderboard to sit in a tie for 20th after his second round and is 3-under; 139 heading into day three. 

Sophomore Franklin Lydra, who is representing the Cougars as an individual at the Visit Stockton Invitational, shot 1-under; 70 in his second round. Lydra is tied with junior Jaden Cantafio in 52nd on the player leaderboard heading into round three. Both Cougs will head into the final day 2-over; 144.

Washington State is eight strokes behind the lead, as Grand Canyon University sits at the top of the leaderboard at 18-under; 550.
