Junkkari's 67 Leads UNC At Landfall Tradition

Tar Heel senior Krista Junkkari made seven birdies en route to a season-low 67 in the opening round of the Landfall Tradition Friday on the Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington.

Carolina shot 4-over 292 to tie for ninth place in the 16-team field. San Jose State leads at 10-under 278, Wake Forest is second at 9 under and Florida State is third at 7 under.

Junkkari is tied for third in the individual standings just one shot off the lead. FSU’s Charlotte Heath and Wake Forest’s Rachel Kuehn share first place at 6-under 66. The 67 equals Junkkari’s second-lowest round of her career, her 10th round in the 60s and best this season.

Carolina’s Kayla Smith shot even-par 72, which included an eagle on the 490-yard par-5 12th hole. Riley Quartermain shot 74 and Crista Izuzquiza posted a 79.

Vilde Nystrøm, playing as an individual entry, made four birdies and shot 76.
