Women’s Golf Completes Opening Round from Mexico

CABO SAN LUCAS, MEX. – The seventh-ranked Bulldogs played the first 18 holes of their last event of the fall on Friday. After the first round from Mexico, State is 13^th shooting 15-over (299).
 
The freshman duo of Surapa Janthamunee and Izzy Pellot led the Bulldogs throughout the first round. Pellot carded 2-under on the front nine, working around a bogey by rolling in three birdies to finish tied for 34^th with Janthamunee at 3-over (71). After carding 3-over on the front nine, Janthamunee sunk three birdies to finish even on the back nine.
 
Hannah Levi rolled in three birdies in the first round to work around back-to-back bogeys on holes 6 and 7 to finish 1-under on the front nine. Levi was 5-over on the back nine to finish 4-over (75).
 
Julia Lopez Ramirez added her second eagle of the season on hole 4 to finish 3-over on the front nine. Lopez Ramirez added two strokes on the back nine to finish 55^th with 5-over (76).
 
Abbey Daniel worked around two bogeys by rolling in seven pars. Daniel was 6-over on the back nine to finish 77^th with 4-over (75).

“We struggled early today. It is always tough to recover from that on a difficult golf course. Everybody did have their good stretches and that’s something we can build off of going into tomorrow. We know the truth about this team. That is what we will lean on going into the second round. Responding well is something we pride ourselves on and we have a great opportunity to do that tomorrow. This team is chomping at the bit to get back out and compete again tomorrow. I believe we are ready for what we have in front of us.”
