Women’s Golf Finishes 5th at Battle at the Beach to Close Fall Season


CABO SAN LUCAS, MEX. – The seventh-ranked Bulldogs completed the final round of the fall season on Sunday. After 54 holes from Cabo San Lucas, State finished 5th shooting 1-over par (853) for the event.  
 
After a tough first round from Mexico, the Bulldogs responded well in the next two rounds to climb up the leaderboard each day. The Bulldogs shot 15-over and were in 13th place after the first 18 holes before erasing 14-strokes on the last 36 holes of the fall season. State used strong performances from up and down the scorecard to record their second consecutive round of 7-under golf in the final round. The Bulldogs used three individual rounds in the 60s to move two spots up the leaderboard on the final day. 7-under par is tied for the 15th lowest team round in school history.
 
The Bulldogs were led by All-American Julia Lopez Ramirez in the final round. Lopez Ramirez carded her second consecutive round in the 60s in the final round, posting 4-under (67) to finish 5th (4-under, 209). Lopez Ramirez has now secured 14 rounds in the 60s for the maroon and white. In 17 career events, Lopez Ramirez has now finished in the top-five 11 times. Lopez Ramirez rolled in four birdies in the final round while adding an eagle on the fourth hole to end the day only bogeying one hole.
 
Freshman Surapa Janthamunee, nicknamed SJ, shined in her Bulldog team debut. Throughout the final round, Janthamunee played the best round of her collegiate career so far. Janthamunee sunk six birdies on the day, adding nine pars to consecutive rounds in the 60s to open her career (3-under, 68). Janthamunee finished in the top 10, finishing 9th (2-under, 211). Throughout the event, SJ sunk the most birdies with 17.
 
Abbey Daniel used the final round to jump up the leaderboard, moving from 39th to 23rd (3-over, 216). Daniel used strong play throughout the round, sinking 10 pars and adding 5 birdies to secure her 6th round in the 60s for State (2-under, 69).
 
Izzy Pellot played her best round of the tournament in the final round, rolling in 13 pars on the day while adding two birdies (2-over, 73) to finish 47th (8-over, 221).
 
Hannah Levi rounds out the scorecard for MSU. Levi carded 4-over (75) in round three to finish 71st (14-over, 227).
 
The Bulldogs will return to the course for the spring season. Future tournaments and dates…
