CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. – The Washington men’s golf team finished the first day of action at the Cal Poly Invitational in a tie for fourth place, in the Huskies’ final competition of the fall.
 
The Huskies played 36 holes Monday and shot back-to-back, under-par rounds, finishing the day at 9-under, with a total of 547 strokes. The UW played the first round at The Preserve Golf Club in 284 strokes and then shaved one shot off that in the second.
 
Robert Galligan had the best two-round performance for the UW, carding an even-par 72 in the opening 18, followed by a 4-under 68 in the second. He notched five birdies and one bogey in his second round. Galligan enters Tuesday’s third and final round tied for 11th place.
 
Senior Petr Hruby made four birdies in the first round and then played a bogey-free round in the second, carding scores of 71 and 70. At 3-under through two rounds, he’s tied for 17th place.
 
Joshua Koo carded a 70 in the first round and a 74 in the second, to leave him at even-par for the tournament, good for a tie for 28th.
 
After a 2-over opening round, Aidan O’Hagan was three shots better in the second round, carding four birdes for a 1-under 71. He’s 1-over through two rounds, tied with teammate Patrick Hong, who shot a 1-under 71 in the first round and a 2-over 74 in the second.
 
Playing as an individual, Drew Warford also improved over the two rounds, carding a 77 in the first and a 1-over 73 in the second.
 
The inaugural Cal Poly Invitational wraps up Tuesday, with round three, beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT.
