Buckeyes, Wallin Victorious at Cal Poly Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

FINAL RESULTS

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team ended the fall portion of the season in the best way possible, claiming both the team title and medalist honors at the Cal Poly Invitational.

Junior Adam Wallin fired a final round 69 in windy and cool conditions at The Preserve Golf Club. He finished the 54-hole event at 10-under par and claimed the second tournament title of his career.

As a team, the Buckeyes entered the final round eight shots behind fellow Big Ten foe Northwestern. Ohio State clawed back and caught the Wildcats about midway through the round and held on down the stretch. The Buckeyes posted a final round of even-par 288 which was the second-best round on the day. The final round scoring average was 75.50 as the temperatures dropped and the cool breeze picked up.

For the event, Ohio State led the field in par-3 scoring as well as par-5 scoring, totaling 30-under par on the par-5s. The Buckeyes also made a field-high 62 birdies, led by Jackson Chandler with 14.

All-American Maxwell Moldovan continued his great fall, posting a 2-under par 70 to finish in a tie for sixth at 5-under par. This was his third Top 10 finish in four events this fall, and nine of his 12 rounds were at par or better.

Neal Shipley finished his tournament with a final round 74 and finished at 1-under par and tied for 20^th. This was his first Top 20 as a Buckeye and he finished two of the four events this fall under-par.

JonErik Alford posted a final 77 to finish at even-par. Chandler made three birdies in his final round of 75 and was 3-over for the tournament. Jacob Tarkany, who played as an individual, made a team-high 36 pars over the 54 holes. He was steady all three rounds, posting a 76 every round.

The Buckeyes claimed their 197^th title in program history. Ohio State will now off until the Puerto Rico Classic which is set for Feb. 12-14, 2023.
