Women's Golf places two inside the top 15 at the 2022 Pac-12 Preview

KAILUA KONA, HAWAII – The Washington State women’s golf team had two golfers post a top-15 finish at the 2022 Pac-12 Preview to conclude the fall portion of its 2022-23 schedule. Sophomore Madelyn Gamble ended in a tie for 11th on the player leaderboard, while fifth year senior Darcy Habgood finished in a tie for 15th.

Gamble carded even par; 73 in Wednesday’s third round of the 2022 Pac-12 Preview. The Pleasant Hill, California native concluded the three-day tournament at even par; 219 to finish in a tie for 11th. It is a season-best finish for Gamble, while it is her third top-20 finish of the fall.

Meanwhile, Habgood moved up 13 spots on the player leaderboard during the tournament’s final day, as she concluded the Pac-12 Preview in a tie for 15th. Habgood carded a team-best 3-under 70 in the third round to conclude the tournament at 1-over 220. It is Habgood’s third top-15 finish of the fall.

Washington State moved up two spots on the team leaderboard during Wednesday’s third round, leapfrogging both Washington and Colorado to finish ninth at the 2022 Pac-12 Preview. The Cougs shot 3-over; 295 in the third round to finish the tournament with a three-round score of 905 (+29).

“Nanea Golf Club is a treat for these college teams to get to play at,” said WSU Women’s Golf Head Coach Sofie Aagaard. “We got off to a slow start in the first round. Many teams were scoring under par while we didn’t. The conditions got harder on days two and three and that’s where we really came to play. Our shot execution improved as the tournament went on and we got better and better at planning shots and strategizing. Great rounds by Madelyn and Darcy, in particular, and a great never-give-up attitude from our freshman, who finished up with birdies.”

Sophomore Emily Cadwell also posted a top-50 finish at the 2022 Pac-12 Preview, as she ended the tournament carding 11-over; 230.

No. 1-ranked Stanford won the 2022 Pac-12 Preview after shooting 18-under; 858 over three days at the Nanea Golf Club. Rose Zhang, who is the No. 2-ranked collegiate women’s golfer according to GolfStat.com, won the tournament’s individual title with a three-day score of 208 (-11).

Washington State will now head into the winter break. The Cougars return to the greens February 13-14, when they head to San Diego for the Lamkin Invitational.
