UW Signs Three New Golfers To Letters Of Intent

The Washington men’s golf team has received National Letters of Intent from three student-athletes who will join the program for the 2023-24 school year, head coach Alan Murray announced today.

The three new Huskies are: Finn Koelle (Sulzfeld, Germany), Henry Hayward (Derby, England, U.K.) and Justin Bai (Chongquin, China).

“Finn has been part of the successful German Boys team that won the European boys team championship in 2021 and 2022,” said Murry. “He has proven himself to be one of the best junior players in Germany which boasts a really deep and strong pool of players. Finn has also performed well in some of the European men’s events so he has a game that can travel.

“Finn is an athlete and super competitive and he will bring a great deal to our team,” Murray continued. “He is very ambitious and has a true passion for the game of golf. We’re really excited he will be a Husky.”

“Henry won the Carris Trophy, which is one of the most prestigious junior tournaments in Britain,” Murray noted. “He is passionate about the game and will be a great addition to the team. He is a smart kid and I think he will really benefit in the college team atmosphere and have that daily competition with his teammates.”

“Justin has had a really strong year highlighted by his win at the FCG Callaway World Championship, where he won by 4 with his 19-under total,” Murray said. “He performed really well in the 2022 Asia Pacific Amateur in Thailand recently, and managed to take down his future teammates Teddy, Bo and Taehoon at that event.

“He also qualified for the 2022 U.S. Junior at Bandon Dunes,” Murray added. “He is a really bubbly kid and has an infectious personality. We are really excited for him to get to Montlake and show us what he can do. He has a capacity to make a lot of birdies which is a real plus.”

“This is a strong recruiting class,” Murray concluded, “and will provide us with tremendous depth and competition for spots in the 23-24 season as we will return all of our current roster.”
