STARKVILLE – Throughout the impressive 2022 fall slate, the Mississippi State women’s golf program showcased its talented roster with stellar team and individual performances.
The 2022 fall season featured some uncharted territory for the Bulldogs under third-year head coach Charlie Ewing and second-year assistant coach, Lauren Whyte. After entering the season ranked 31st, Mississippi State propelled up the rankings throughout the fall, becoming the No. 3 ranked team in the country in October. The Bulldogs ended the fall ranked 11th as a team in the latest Golfstat rankings. Golfstat uses Relative Rankings to calculate their rankings each week. Relative Rankings compare each team, one-on-one, against every other team in the country. A percentage value is applied to every one of those decisions. MSU clocks in with a 261/272 comparative record against the field for a 90.2% relative percentage.
State competed in five events as a team throughout the fall. As a team, MSU never placed lower than fifth, highlighted by capturing back-to-back team titles in the Mason Rudolph Championship and Blessings Collegiate Invitational. Mississippi State is one of five schools currently ranked inside the top 25 with two or more tournament wins in the fall.
The Bulldogs opened up their fall season at the Carmel Cup from the historic Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif. The 2022 edition of this famed event marked a new era as the Carmel Cup featured women for the first time. On the last day of the event, State began the day in fifth place. MSU was able to use a hot start on the front nine to improve their team score for the third consecutive day to card a 1-over, 361 in the final round. After the season’s first 54 holes of golf, the Bulldogs finished fourth as a team (24-over, 1104). The trend of the Bulldogs being relentless in the final round of play is something that this team showcased throughout the fall. Julia Lopez Ramirez picked right back up where she left off in her sophomore season opener. Lopez Ramirez shined on the final day, securing her 11th round in the 60s with 3-under (69). Throughout the tournament, Lopez Ramirez rolled in the fifth most birdies with 11 to finish tied for fourth with a 2-under (214) final tally.
