Sun Devil Women’s Golf signed a historic recruiting class last November, one that was ranked No. 1 in the nation by GOLF Channel. Paula Schulz-Hanssen, Beth Coulter, and Patience Rhodes represent one of the most talented groups of freshmen in program history. With the Fall season coming to an end and Spring a little over a month away, now is a good time to learn more about the three Sun Devil newcomers. Next up in our “Get to Know” series is Patience Rhodes.
The No. 21 overall recruit Patience Rhodes was one of the fastest-rising prospects in the class, emerging as a legit competitor on the European amateur scene over the past three years. In 2022, she represented her home country at the 2022 European Girls’ Team Championship, finishing tied for 16th while helping England to a second-place finish in stroke play. She competed at the German Girls 2022, earning a 20th place finish.
Rhodes established herself as one of the premiere golfers in the class when she won the English Girls’ Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship in July of 2021, showing poise down the stretch to claim a one-shot victory. Rhodes finished 17th at the 2021 European Women’s Amateur Championship, proving to be one of the top female junior golfers on the continent. She finished in the Top-10 at the Junior Orange Bowl International and Internationaux de France U21 competitions. Rhodes also earned a ninth-place finish in the R&A Girls Amateur Championship back in August of 2021. Rhodes claimed victory at the 2020 Memorial Norbierto Goizueta competition held in Spain. She is currently ranked in the Top-400 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
With several home tournaments coming up in the Spring, Rhodes is expected to make her Sun Devil debut in 2023. Rhodes is a reason why the Sun Devil Women’s Golf qualifying process is so competitive, as she has been pushing her teammates in practice. Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye has liked what she has seen from Rhodes so far. “Patience has been a fantastic addition to our program. She is even more talented than we realized in the recruiting process. Not only has she been impressive in practice, she is also a supportive teammate that has fit right in to the clubhouse.”
