DURHAM – On Sunday evening in Las Vegas, former Duke women’s golf National Player of the Year, Candy Hannemann, was inducted into the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Players Hall of Fame at Planet Hollywood Resort.
Hannemann was inducted along with Melissa Sneller of Grand Valley State University and Celeste Troche of Auburn University. Hannemann, Sneller and Troche became the 82nd, 83rd and 84th members of the WGCA Players Hall of Fame.
A four-time All-ACC selection, Hannemann helped lead Duke to two NCAA Championships, including the program’s first national title in 1999. She guided the Blue Devils to four ACC Championships and an impressive 33 team wins over her four seasons in Durham.
In 2001, she was named both the ACC Player of the Year and the recipient of the Honda Award before going on to win the individual NCAA title. Hannemann was the first Blue Devil to win the NCAA Individual crown as she defeated Lorena Ochoa in a playoff at the El Campeon course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
The native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil received WGCA All-American accolades in her final two seasons and won the individual ACC Championship crown as a senior. In the Duke record books, she currently ranks eighth in individual career wins (5), career top-five finishes (16), and career top-10 finishes (23).
Hannemann became the fifth Blue Devil to be inducted into the WGCA Players Hall of Fame, joining Jenny Chuasiriporn (2021), Liz Janangelo (2019), Virada Nirapathpongporn (2016) and Amanda Blumenherst (2015).
