Shuttered course could be getting new life

2022 Masters Tournament

AUGUSTA, Georgia — An Augusta golf course that’s been closed for several years might have found a buyer.

Online real estate ads, as of Dec. 9, list a status of “pending” for property for sale at 2900 Green Meadows Drive, the site of the former Green Meadows Golf Club. A “pending” status means the property’s seller has accepted a buyer’s offer but the property has not yet officially sold.

Realtor Russ Trulock with Blanchard and Calhoun Real Estate said Dec. 8 that parties are performing due diligence on the 125-acre property. He added he has no direct knowledge of what the prospective buyer’s plans are for the land, “but we’re hopeful we can get it sold. It’s a beautiful piece of real estate.”

Ads for the property show an asking price of $3,746,060. Richmond County property records show the property’s assessed value at $1,705,921.

The 18-hole course opened as Green Meadows Country Club in 1960, but the course’s future lay in doubt after the 2016 death of the course’s owner and operator, Kenny Miles Jr.

The real estate listing for the course describes redevelopment potential into “high- or low-density residential, as well as some portions that could be used for apartments, professional or business.”

However, it could remain a golf course, perhaps even upgraded. The course’s long-dormant Facebook page was updated last August with two photos with no captions. One photo shows a flag pin on an empty green, and the other shows a tee sign for Green Meadows’ 16th hole that lists the yard lengths from four sets of tees. Green Meadows traditionally provided just three sets of tees.
