Tennessee men’s golfers Bryce Lewis and Caleb Surratt are two of just 37 collegiate golfers to be named to Ben Hogan Award watch list, presented by PNC Bank. The joint announcement was made by the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation, the Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
The award honors the top men’s NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfers based on all collegiate, amateur, and professional events over the previous 12 months. Three of the top-12 players in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) – No. 3 John Rahm (2015, 2016), No. 5 Patrick Cantlay (2012) and No. 11 Viktor Hovland (2019) are all past recipients of the honor.
Tennessee is one of the nine schools with multiple players on the watch list.
Surratt is one of the three freshmen named to the list. The true freshman logged his third PGA Tour start on Wednesday at the Farmers Insurance Open after medaling in the Monday qualifier. His other tour appearances include The American Express and the Butterfield Bermuda Championship–in which he made the cut.
The Indian Trail, North Carolina, native has also seen success on the collegiate circuits after claiming the individual title at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in his first ever collegiate start and finishing top-five at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate that resulted in an SEC Golfer of the Week honor.
Redshirt junior Bryce Lewis capped off the fall season with successful showings that included an individual title at the Purdue Fall Invitational, an SEC Golfer of the Week Honor, and a top-25 finish.

Throughout his career as a Vol, Lewis has been a PING All-Southeast Region and All-SEC Second Team selection. Most recently, the Hendersonville, Tennessee, native was named the Tennessee Golf Association’s Men’s Player of the Year.
This year’s list of 10 semifinalists, which could include individuals not on the watch list, will be unveiled April 14. That group will be pared down to three finalists on May 4. The finalists will attend a black-tie dinner May 22, at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, where the winner will be crowned.
