Freshman Mahanth Chirravuri finished his last 11 holes at 4-under to secure a final-round 3-under 69 — his low score since the season-opener — to lead the USC men’s golf team in the final round of the Southwestern Invitational on Wednesday (Feb. 1) at the North Ranch C.C. in Westlake Village, Calif.
USC posted the second-best round of the day at 1-over 289 and finished 10th at 35-over 899 (300-310-289). Texas won at 14-under with host Pepperdine second at 1-under.
Chirravuri tied for 23rd at 5-over 221 (71-81-69). After a birdie on 2, he bogeyed 3 and 4 to drop to 1-over. Three pars led to birdies on 8 and 9 as he turned at 1-under. He then completed the back 9 at 2-under for his second round in the 60s this year.
The 69 is his second-best outing this season, complementing a 67 during the second of two rounds to open the season on Sept. 19.
Chirravuri, who is USC’s top finisher for the third time this season, also now leads USC with seven rounds of par or better to go with five rounds under par.
Senior Jack Boulger tied for 25th at 6-over 222 (75-74-73). He went out at 1-under with two birdies. Junior Krando Nishiba tied for 35th at 9-over 225 (77-75-73), also posting two birdies today.
Sophomore Gavin Aurilia, as an individual, tied for 47th at 13-over 229 (73-83-73). Sophomore Jackson Rivera tied for 57th at 18-over 234 (79-81-74) and junior Shane Ffrench was 64th at 22-over 238 (77-80-81).
