WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – Two Washington golfers – Teddy Lin and Taehoon Song – finished in a tie for seventh place after the final round of the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club.

It was the best finish of the 2022-23 season for Lin, and the second-best for Song.

The Huskies finished tied for fifth as a team, posting a three-round score of 16-over 880.

“I’m very proud of Taehoon and Teddy performance this week,” said Husky head coach Alan Murray. “They played well in a strong field.

“It was a tough day today as a team,” Murray continued.”Taehoon and Teddy saved us over the course of the week with really solid tournaments individually, but overall we were a long way from our best and short of where we should have been, in truth.”

Song, a junior, tallied a three-day total of 73-70-70=213. Wednesday, he had two birdies and a bogey on both the front and back nine, good for a second straight 70. It was his second top-10 finish in five tournaments this year, as he took second at the Husky Invitational last fall.

Lin was 3-over on the front nine, but played the back nine at one-under to finish 2-over for the round. His three-day scorecard was 68-71-74=213, good for the fifth top-10 of his college career.

Wake Forest’s Michael Brennan was the individual medalist, with a 9-under total of 207. Texas won the team title at 14-under.

Senior Petr Hruby closed out his tournament with a 3-over 75 to finish at 10-over for the week, placing him in a tie for 38th place.

Bo Peng shot a 4-over 76 to complete the tournament with 13-over 279, good for a tie for 47th. Freshman Joshua Koo carded a 78 on Wednesday to finish with a three-round total of 231, placing him 52nd overall.

“This team has more ability and talent than we displayed this week,” Coach Murray said. “We have some things that we need to do much better. We are more than capable of doing so, but it just comes down to being more disciplined on a daily basis with our practice I believe. I hope the guys leave here with a sour taste in their mouths from a performance standpoint. We need to roll our sleeves up and get better.”
