East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team finished in 11th place among 18 teams at the UCF Challenge, played at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
The Spartans shot a 4-under par 284 in the final round and finished with a three-day, 54-hole total of 6-under par 862.
Wake Forest shot an 11-under par 277 in the final round and finished atop the field at 42-under par 822, four shots ahead of second place Mississippi State (38-under par 826). Northwestern finished in third place (37-under par 827), with UCF fourth (27-under par 837) and Kentucky rounded out the top-five teams (20-under par 844).
Junior Leila Raines was the top finisher for Michigan State, tying for 31st place at 2-under par 214 (71-75-68). She fired a 4-under 68 on Tuesday, her best round of the weekend.
Sophomore Brookie Biermann tied for 45th place at 1-over par 217 (68-75-74). She finished the tournament with a 2-over par 74 in Tuesday’s round.
Sophomores Katie Lu and Shannon Kennedy tied for 52nd place with scores of 2-over par 218. Lu shot a 2-over par 74 on Tuesday to complete the tournament (71-73-74). Kennedy had the team’s second-best round of the day at 2-under par 70 (70-78-70).
Junior Valentina Rossi posted an even-par 72 in the final round and finished in a tie for 60th place at 3-over par 219 (76-71-72).
Freshman Paula Balanzategui, who played as an individual, posted a 2-over par 74 in the final round and tied for 86th place at 10-over par 226 (76-76-74).
Michigan State is back in action at the Moon Golf Challenge, which will be held from Sunday, Feb. 19 to Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Fla.
