The Missouri women’s golf team improved its team place during the final round of the Paradise Invitational, moving up two spots to finish third of 14 schools at the tournament hosted by Florida Atlantic.
The Tigers shot a one-under 287 for the second-straight round to place third overall and only behind nationally-ranked schools in No. 19 Vanderbilt and No. 47 Nebraska. Overall, Mizzou posted a two-under 862 during the three rounds, two strokes behind the Huskers for second and seven ahead of fourth-place BYU.
Mizzou also improved its place by two spots from fifth one year ago at the Paradise Invitational.
Individually, Sophia Yoemans recorded her first top-10 finish outside of Columbia with a two-under 214 during the tournament. Firing a 74 during the final day of action, Yoemans three-round total of 214 is four shots better than her previous best 54-hole score.
Two Tigers carded below-par totals during Tuesday’s third round. Freshman Melanie Walker posted the best score by a Mizzou golfer this year with a four-under 68. The rookie connected on five birdies with just one bogey as she placed 14th overall with a one-under 215.
Junior Emily Staples nearly matched Walker with a three-under 69 on Tuesday, carding six birdies to move up 18 places during the final 18 holes and finish 15th overall with an even-par 216. Freshman Kate Bibby and graduate Sky Sload rounded out the day for MU with scores of 76 and 78, respectively.
After a strong start to its spring campaign, the Tigers return to action in nearly three weeks when they compete at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona, beginning on Feb. 26.
