The seventh-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team will tee off its spring this weekend outside the mainland United States at the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Vols will begin the 30th Annual Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday and are scheduled to compete in one round apiece on both Monday and Tuesday.
According to Golfweek’s collegiate rankings, Tennessee is the highest ranked team out of the 13 participating teams. The 13-team field also features two teams that competed in the 2022 NCAA Championship.
The tournament is set to be played at the par-72, 7,152-yard Grand Reserve Golf Club. The Tom Kite course is the yearly host for the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rican Open. The individual medalist of the Puerto Rico Classic will receive an invite to the PGA Tour event in March.
Tennessee is coming off a successful fall season in which it posted a 45-9 record and claimed back-to-back tournament titles at the SEC Match Play Championships and Purdue Fall Invitational.
This marks the second time that UT will play in the Puerto Rico Classic, with both times being under head coach Brennan Webb. During the 2021-22 season, Tennessee posted a team score of 47-under to finish tied for third place in the tournament.
THE VOLS’ LINEUP
Caleb Surratt
The true freshman is coming off a successful fall campaign after winning the Maui Jim Intercollegiate and posting a top-five finish at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. Additionally, the Indian Trail, North Carolina, native competed in three PGA Tour tournaments and was recently named the Carolinas Golf Association’s Men’s Player of the Year.
Bryce Lewis
Lewis posted a 70.08 scoring average during the fall in addition to capturing an individual title at the Purdue Fall Invitational. The redshirt junior also logged seven rounds in the 60s and tallied his 18th career top-25 finish at the SEC Match Play Championship.
Josh Hill
An incoming freshman from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Josh Hill is set to make his Tennessee debut on Sunday. Currently ranked 72nd in World Amateur Golf Rankings, Hill competed in the 2022 R&A Jacques Léglise Trophy and the 2022 U.S. Amateur Championship.
Lance Simpson
