Gamecocks Off to Solid Start In Puerto Rico – University of South Carolina Athletics

RIO GRANDE, P.R. – South Carolina sits in fifth place after a solid start to the spring on Sunday morning at the Puerto Rico Classic. The Gamecocks shot 284 (-4) with three red numbers from the team’s four counting scores.

Junior Rafe Reynolds paved the way with a 2-under 70. He made five birdies in round one. Sophomore Nathan Franks and freshman Zach Adams each shot 71 (-1). Franks made just one bogey and was bogey free on the front nine coming into the clubhouse. He made two birdies in his final four holes. Adams carded four birdies on the day and was hurt only by a double bogey at the par-4 12th hole.

Fifth year Evans Lewis and transfer Lansdon Robbins each shot 72 (E). Lewis was hurt only by a double bogey at the par-4 seventh hole, his second to last hole of the day. Robbins made the turn at 2-over and had fought back with three birdies in his final eight holes. Freshman Walker Jennings, who is playing as an individual this week, shot 75 (+3) in his Gamecock debut.

The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 16 Oklahoma and Ole Miss in the second round on Monday. It’s another shotgun start for the field at 7:30 a.m. (ET). Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
