RIO GRANDE, P.R. – South Carolina recorded its third consecutive under par round on Tuesday at the Puerto Rico Classic to finish sixth in the team’s opening tournament of the spring. Junior Rafe Reynolds had a career day with a bogey free 67 (-5), a new career low 18-hole score.
He finished T-2nd with a 54-hole total of 206 (-10), both career best marks. Reynolds finished second in the field with 16 birdies, which led the team. He also was T-2nd in par-3 scoring average at 2.75 (-3).
Fifth-year Evans Lewis posted another red number with a 71 (-1) in the final round today. He made four birdies. The Sumter, S.C., native shot 212 (-4) and finished T-24th. Transfer Lansdon Robbins and freshman Zach Adams were the final counting scores with even par 72s. Sophomore Nathan Franks shot 77 (+5) and was hurt by a pair of double bogeys. Freshman Walker Jennings shot 76 (+4) in the third round. He made his Gamecock debut this week playing as an individual.
No. 16 Oklahoma took home the team title over ETSU, who led after 36 holes, with a final round 272 (-16). The Bucs Algot Kleen took home medalist honors by three shots with a 54-hole total of 203 (-13). He posted three red numbers with a pair of 66s.
Carolina will be off the rest of the month before a title defense opportunity at the Palmetto Intercollegiate March 6-7 at historic Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken.
