Cats Card Blistering Low Opening Round in Hawai'i

LIHUE, Hawai’i – No. 19 Arizona Men’s Golf fired an opening round of 10-under for second place to open the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai’i as sophomore Tiger Christensen led the Wildcats with a 5-under round of 67 in just his second event with Arizona. Christensen, a native of Germany, caught fire on the front nine with three consecutive birdies and an eagle. Due to inclement weather in the forecast, the teams played the first eight holes of round two on Thursday afternoon.

“Today was another great performance by our team on the course,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “Hats off to Tiger for a phenomenal round today that really set the tone for us. We also got some quality opening rounds from the remainder of our lineup, which put us in a great position moving forward. I am really eager to see us come out and compete again tomorrow.”

Christensen was followed by sophomore Johnny Walker and freshman Zach Pollo who both shot 2-under rounds of 70 with senior Chase Sienkiewicz also breaking par with an opening round of 71.

The Wildcats were at their best on the Ocean Course at Hokuala’s shortest holes as with the second-lowest scoring average on par 3’s in the 16-team field.

Arizona will resume its second round on Friday with hopes of completing 36 holes before challenging weather conditions hit the Hawaiian Islands.
