Collin Morikawa wears mic for CBS on 10th hole at Genesis Invitational

Once again, CBS’ mic’d up segment during its third-round broadcast was brilliant. This time, it was Collin Morikawa on the 10th hole at the Genesis Invitational.

The drivable par 4 is one of the best holes on the golf course, but difficult shots will be punished. Morikawa explained the risk-reward of the hole and why it can be so challenging for the best players in the world.

“I don’t think people understand how much slope is on this green,” Morikawa said after striping his tee shot toward the front of the green. “There’s so much bank on the right. So much bank pushing away from the front edge that all of our balls end up on the back side of the green.”

Morikawa’s insight was resourceful to fans watching, explaining lines off the tee and even joking how Justin Thomas is about the only golfer who lays up on the hole.

He decided to hit a bump-and-run with his 5-wood, then Morikawa stepped to the side and commentated as the group behind hit their shots into the green.

Morikawa’s birdie putt missed just right of the hole, but he made his par putt.

This is the fourth straight week of the mic’d up segment. First, it was Max Homa at Torrey Pines. Then Keith Mitchell at Pebble Beach. Last week, Tom Kim wore one at TPC Scottsdale.

The next CBS broadcast is at the Masters. Here’s to hoping someone will wear a mic at Augusta National.
