COURSE MANAGEMENT VITAL FOR DE ROEY HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND

Manon De Roey

Belgium’s Manon De Roey had an exceptional second round at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by Public Investment Fund.

The LET winner was one of four players to produce a six-under-par 66 in the second round at Royal Greens.

It was a brilliant front nine for De Roey, who rolled in four birdies and an eagle to make the turn in 30 (-6).

And despite facing tougher conditions on the back nine, the Belgian dropped a shot on the eighth and then finished with a birdie on nine to move up to T9 on the leaderboard.

“The front nine was basically no wind, so I had to take advantage of that a little bit,” said De Roey, who finished fourth on the 2022 Race to Costa del Sol.

“I know I can reach some par-fives. I had some good birdie putts in the beginning, I birdied my first hole and then on the 12th, which is also a tough hole with the wind left to right.

“The eagle on 13 came a bit unexpectedly. I had I think 177 into the green but I just wanted to be over there. I was in the back of the green and I had like crazy putts, four breaks I think, so I just wanted to get close to the hole.

“Then it went in, so that was very nice, and I had some good saves as well. I took advantage of the no wind on the front nine, and then I tried to manage myself on the back nine because the wind came up. I made some great saves again and I birdied the last hole, which is nice.”

After making a move up the leaderboard on Friday, De Roey sits in a share of ninth place and is six shots behind leader Aditi Ashok.

But having played in many events at Royal Greens, the winner of the Aramco Team Series – Bangkok individual title will be trying to use her past knowledge for the final 36 holes.

She explained: “I’m expecting a lot of wind still. There is always wind here on this course. You just have to be patient out there. I am going to create chances for myself, hit some good shots, and roll in some putts.

“I’ve played here more than my home course the last few years. Being here a couple of times before is definitely an advantage over the field. Some girls haven’t been here. I think I know the tricks and how to manage to play the course. I’m going to use that to my advantage.”
