PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The No. 24 Mississippi State men’s golf team finished the first round of the Watersound Invitational in seventh place after shooting 2-over as a team.

“It was great to get back into the arena and see the guys compete again,” head coach Dusty Smith said. “I’m really proud of our battle all day. We were a bit rusty in the round and need to clean up some simple mistakes, but I loved how we competed today.”

Austin Vukovits and Garrett Endicott are the current frontrunners for the Bulldogs, with both inside the top 20 after Day 1. Vukovits fired a round of 70 with four birdies on the front nine and ended his day in a three-way tie for 14th. Endicott shot four birdies of his own and will go into the second round in a nine-way tie for 17th.

Hunter Logan and Harrison Davis sit in a tie for 26th, carding four birdies each through the first 18 holes. Ruan Pretorius is T-51st and Ford Clegg is T-56th.

Davis will tee off first for the Bulldogs to begin the second round on Monday at 9:50 a.m. CT from the No. 1 tee. Vukovits will tee off at 10:10 a.m. with the remaining four MSU golfers following in 10-minute increments.

“We need to make sure we take ownership and learn from today’s round,” Smith added. “At this level, you have to do the simple things at an elite level to be successful.”
