East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State junior women’s golf Leila Raines was named the Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.

Raines helped lead Michigan State to a fifth-place finish at the Moon Golf Invitational at Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Fla. this week, a 17-team field that included 13 teams ranked among the top-50 in the country by Golfstat.

The Spartans entered the final round of play in 10th place among 17 teams, but led by Raines, MSU fired a 12-under par 76 and moved up five places to finish the three-day, 54-hole tournament in fifth place at 14-under par 850.

Raines fired a 7-under par 65 in the final round to tie for first place with a 13-under par 203 (69-69-65). She advanced to a playoff and lost on the second playoff hole. Her round on Tuesday included seven birdies and 12 pars as she posted the best individual round of her career and tied for the fourth-best single round in program history.

The score of 203 for Raines ties the best 54-hole score in program history, set by Allyson Geer-Park at the Briar’s Creek Invitational in 2019.
