DORADO, Puerto Rico — Coming off a strong finish to the fall portion of the 2022-23 schedule, Duke men’s golf returns to the course this weekend. The Blue Devils travel to Puerto Rico for the Dorado Beach Collegiate, with the 54-hole event running from Feb. 26 through Feb. 28. Hosted by UNC Greensboro (UNCG), the 14-team field includes six teams within the top-100 nationally and two top-25 teams. The event is held at the Sugarcane Course at TPC Dorado Beach, which is setup to play at 7,112 yards with a par of 72 for the event.
Competing alongside Duke in the event are Army, Auburn, Augusta, Ball State, Boston College, Cincinnati, Drexel, Kennesaw State, Old Dominion, Rutgers, West Virginia, Virginia and UNCG.
Duke’s lineup consists of Ian Siebers, Luke Sample, Kelly Chinn, Ethan Evans and Daniel Choi. The Blue Devils also have William Love and Jimmy Zheng competing individually. Play begins at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, with a shotgun start. Duke is slated to start on holes 1-3 and play alongside Auburn, Rutgers and UNCG on the first day. Playing partners for the second and third rounds are determined by team standings. Love and Zheng tee off on either hole 16 or 17 on Sunday.
The Blue Devils are coming off a team victory at the Bahamas Invitational in late October, where the team tied a program record with its 54-hole score of 823 (-41). Sample finished in a tie for first place at 12-under, but ultimately fell in the playoff to determine the individual medalist. The team title was the 29th of Jamie Green‘s tenure at Duke and the second of the 2022-23 season after the Blue Devils swept the Georgetown Intercollegiate earlier in the fall.
Siebers currently holds the top stroke average on the team at 71.73 this season, and remains atop the program record book for career stroke average at 71.25. Chinn looks to continue his strong play as of late, after finishing the fall schedule with five of his last six rounds in the 60’s.
