Deacs Battle in First Round of Darius Rucker Intercollegiate


HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The No. 2 women’s golf team battled through the first 18 holes of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club with four players inside the top 25 after day one.
 
The Deacs led the field in scoring on par fours while also recording the most pars of any team in the field with 65. Lauren Walsh was second in the field individually with 16 pars in her opening round.
 
Walsh had the most consistent day for the Deacs, recording just two bogeys, one on her first nine and one on her second, in addition to her 16 pars on the round. Rachel Kuehn was the low Deac for the day, finishing one over par, just one stroke off the top 10 in the field. She started the day with two birdies and two bogeys on her first nine holes and finished with one birdie and two bogeys on her second. She enters the second round in a tie for 12th on the individual leaderboard.
 
Walsh, Emilia Migliaccio and Carolina Chacarra all finished the day two over par and inside the top 25, in a tie for 23rd. Having a slight opposite round from Walsh, Migliacio and Chacarra each registered two birdies and four bogeys. Chacarra had one birdie on her first nine and one on her second while both of Migliaccio’s came on her second nine.
 
After finishing her first nine holes at three over, Mimi Rhodes had nine straight pars on her second nine holes of the day to finish three over and in a tie for 33rd heading into Tuesday’s second round.
 
Second Round
Tuesday’s second round will begin with tee times starting at 9:20 a.m. Wake Forest will be going off the first tee in 10-minute intervals beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Deacs will be paired with Auburn and Texas. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat. Live coverage on GOLF Channel will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET.
