Arriving on Rocky Top all the way from Bangkok, Thailand, Manassanan Chotikabhukkana–goes by Baibua–has hit the ground running to start her collegiate career. Having been a decorated junior golfer back home, Chotikabhukkana has already played well enough in her first season to be on par with the rest of her older teammates and competition.
Chotikabhukkana made her Tennessee college debut with a solid performance at the Cougar Classic in September, carding two under-par rounds to finish T26 (E).
For the rest of her appearances, the freshman finished with the most par or better rounds than any other player this fall, totaling seven in five tournaments. She shot 2-over at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate and Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah, finishing tied for 29th and 52nd place, respectively. At the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational, Chotikabhukkana earned the first top-25 finish of her career (T24), with a 54-hole score of 222 (+6). She ended the fall slate strong with the second top-25 finish of her career at the Landfall Tradition (T13), shooting -2 overall, earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors. In her most recent match at the CIGCC, she shot +7 overall to keep it going with a third top-25 finish (T13).
The 18-year-old is no stranger to competition as she has been playing in world tournaments for over a decade now. Chotikabhukkana made her first appearance at the Junior World Golf Championship in 2012 where she also played in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2018.
In 2018, Chotikabhukkana earned a first-place finish at the Himbara World Junior Championships in Indonesia and another in the SICC Junior Invitational Golf Championship in Singapore. The following year she won the TGA Singha Junior Championship (64-72-69-71).
Chotikabhukkana will only continue to add to her great start with more top finishes and accolades as her career goes on. The Lady Vol looks to continue her streak at the ICON Invitational Feb. 27-28 in Houston.
