Sophomore Xin (Cindy) Kou turned in her third straight round under par for a top 10 finish while senior Malia Nam completed her lowest 54-hole total this season to lead No. 11 USC on the final day of the ICON Invitational at the Golf Club of Houston on Tuesday (Feb. 28).
The Trojans finished third at a combined 22-under 842 (274-280-288). Texas A&M won at 34-under while North Texas took second at 24-under. It marks USC’s second straight top 3 finish.
Kou, who tied for fifth two weeks ago at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge, tied for sixth this week at 10-under 206 (65-70-71) for her third top 7 this season. A double bogey on 1 was an ominous start, but Kou finished the final 17 holes at 3-under without another blemish.
It was the third time this season Kou has been USC’s top finisher.
Nam, meanwhile, tied for 14th at 5-under 211 (69-73-69). She was even through five holes but an eagle on 8 propelled her to 3-under over her final 13 holes.
Her 5-under was her most under par since her USC debut as a 2018 fall freshman when she was second at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at 12-under 204.
Junior Christine Wang (77-68-71), sophomore Amari Avery (75-67-74) and junior Brianna Navarossa (72-70-74) all tied for 37th at par 216.
Freshman Catherine Park closed with a final-round 73. She she signed for a wrong second-round score Monday, which disqualified her second round and put her out of the individual scoring.
