Alabama Closes Play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Alabama women’s golf team ended play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in 13th position overall with a team total of 884 (297-295-292) across the three-day, 54-hole tournament.

The Crimson Tide got off to hot starts in each of the first two days with identical scores of 6-under through the opening nine holes of both Monday’s first round and Tuesday’s second round but could not keep the pace.

None of the 17 teams in the field, which included 15 ranked among the top 50 and 12 inside the top 25, finished under par on the challenging par 71, 6,281 yard Long Cove Club track.

Alabama was led by Sarah Edwards, who finished tied for 23rd overall with a tournament total of 6-over par 219 (78-71-70). It marked her fourth top-25 result of the season

Head Coach Mic Potter

“First off, this is a really challenging golf course and every hole really demands your best, so it’s a good test. That said, you have really have to have talent on your team to reach six-under par on this course, which we were able to do in each of the first two rounds before stumbling. That put us among the leaders each day. We have get used to being at the top and we have to get that confidence which allows us to believe in ourselves in order to remain at that level. Today was just average and we wasted a few shots which made it tough to come back. I am seeing signs of improvement and that’s good. We need to get back and continue to get better, better technically of course but most of all get better in our self-belief.”
