Sun Devil Men’s Golf returns to action for the first time in over a month at the 2023 Cabo Collegiate Sunday, Mar. 5 – Tuesday, Mar. 7

THE COURSE

The Twin Dolphin Course is 7,156 yard, par-72. Each of the three, 18-hole rounds will commence at 8:00 a.m. local time on a shotgun start.  

 

THE FIELD

13 of the 15 teams in the field are ranked according to Golfstat, including No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 2 Texas Tech, No. 3 ASU and No. 4 Stanford.

 

THE LINEUP

The Sun Devils will send Ryggs Johnston, Preston Summerhays, Josele Ballester, Luke Potter and Michael Mjaaseth to the Cabo Intercollegiate.

 

IN THE RANKINGS

Arizona State is ranked third in the country by Golfweek. Luke Potter sits ninth in the individual rankings. He is trailed by Michael Mjaaseth (29), Preston Summerhays (30) and Josele Ballester (33) in the top 40. 

ASU is also ranked 19th in the nation by Golfstat.  Ryggs Johnston is the highest ranked Sun Devil at 23rd per Golfstat. He is tailed by Preston Summerhays (27), Luke Potter (40), Josele Ballester (45) and Michael Mjaaseth (48). All five in ASU’s lineup are in the top 50 nationally.

LAST YEAR HERE

The Sun Devils finished shot 12-under 840 (295-275-270=840/-12). Preston Summerhays led the way for ASU in Cabo  with a 7-under 206 (72-68-66=206/-7).

SECOND ROUND SUCCESS

In its three fall tournaments, ASU had its best team performance in the second round each time. Tournament-high winds on day two of the Southwestern Invitational caused 10 of the 12 teams to shoot worse than than the first round, including ASU.
