Women’s Golf Tied for First After Rain-Shortened Opening Day in Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ole Miss women’s golf saw rain put an early end to their hot start at the Gators Invitational on Saturday, with the Rebels now heading into Sunday’s final day of action tied for first at 4-over par.

The Rebels were able to get through 12-15 holes of play in the tournament’s opening round, tallying a tournament-high 11 birdies to sit in a tie at the top of the team leaderboard with tournament host Florida.

Senior Andrea Lignell led the day one charge for the Rebels, tallying three birdies through her 12 holes of play to hold sole possession of first on the individual leaderboard. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native saw all 12 of her holes go par or better, and currently leads the tournament in par-4 scoring (-1).

Ellen Hume has also had a strong start to her weekend in Gainesville, sitting just one-over par and tied for 11th overall when play was suspended after her 12th hole of play. Hume is pursuing what would be her second top 10 finish of the 2022-23 season, with her first coming at The Ally where she finished tied for third.

Both Chiara Tamburlini and Molly Hardwick will enter Sunday’s final day at Mark Bostick Golf Course tied for 33rd, ending their days at three-over par. Elle Johnson then rounded out the Ole Miss lineup by ending her day tied for 59th at six-over.

The tournament will restart right where the Rebels left off tomorrow at 6:45 a.m. CT and will now be shortened to just 36 holes to determine the tournament team and individual champions.
