CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – No. 19 Arizona Men’s Golf used a flurry of birdies on the front nine holes of the Twin Dolphin Club to finish the opening day of the Cabo Collegiate in sixth place at 7-over par. Sophomore Tiger Christensen led all Wildcats with an even par round of 71, which put him in a tie for 11th. He was one of three Wildcats to birdie the first hole as three Arizona golfers sank multiple birdies before the turn.
“We had a balanced opening day of competition on Sunday, which gave us a couple of things to dial in for tomorrow’s second round,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “We are in a good position to move up on Monday, and I am excited to see our team go out and compete and card improved scores.”
The Wildcats are three strokes behind the tournament’s three-way tie for third that includes Arizona State, Baylor and Texas Tech. Vanderbilt leads the field at 4-under with Ole Miss sitting four strokes behind Vandy in second.
Behind Christensen on the player leaderboard, Arizona has Chase Sienkiewicz and Chaz Aurilia both tied for 25th at 2-over par.
Monday’s second round will be 18 holes with the Wildcats paired with Texas Tech, Arkansas and Florida State.
