Women's Golf post a top-10 finish at the Meadow Club Collegiate

FAIRFAX, Calif. – The Washington State women’s golf team collected a top-10 finish at the 2023 Juli Inkster Collegiate, as the Cougars finished ninth overall after shooting 27-over; 891 after three rounds of play at the Meadow Club Golf Course.

The Cougars carded under 300 in each round of the Meadow Club Collegiate, as Washington State posted its best team score of the spring at 891 (+27). WSU shot 8-over; 296 in each of the tournament’s first two rounds, before shooting 11-over; 299 in Tuesday’s third round. WSU’s ninth-place finish at the Meadow Club Collegiate marks the sixth top-10 finish for the Cougars during the 2022-23 season.

“This tournament was at the beautiful Meadow Club Golf Course and we played better than our current average, which is always encouraging,” said Washington State Women’s Golf Head Coach Sofie Aagaard. “Our players did a good job in implementing some recent skills, strategies, and mindset we have been working on and it is nice to see that there is progress early on in that process. Darcy had a strong performance in all three rounds and finished in 11th. Madelyn as well had a steady week with her top-20 finish. We had heavy rain, cold temperatures, some hail, and breezy conditions which caused us to have two times suspended play on the first day due to flooded greens. To complete the 54-hole event we finished round two and played round three on the final day.”

Fifth-year senior Darcy Habgood finished the Meadow Club Collegiate in a tie for 11th on the player leaderboard, as she finished the tournament at 2-over; 218. Habgood had the best individual round for the Cougars, as she shot 3-under; 69 in the second round. The Australian native collected five birdies in the second round en route to her best individual round score of the season. Habgood’s 10 total birdies were the third-most collected by a golfer in the tournament.

Sophomore Madelyn Gamble also posted a top-20 finish for the Cougars, as she shot 5-over; 221 through her 72 holes of play at the Meadow Club Golf Course. Gamble ended the tournament strong, as the sophomore carded even par in the third round to finish in a tie for 17th.

Stanford won the Meadow Club Collegiate by five strokes over Southern California. The Cardinal shot 6-under; 858. Stanford’s Rose Zhang collected a two-stroke victory over San Jose State’s Kajsa Arwefjall. Zhang shot…
