Virginia Men's Golf | Busy Spring Continues for UVA at Hackler Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 16 Virginia men’s golf team competes in its third tournament in as many weeks when the Cavaliers play at the 22nd annual General Hackler Championship on March 13-14. The two-day, 54-hole event will feature 36 holes of play on Monday and a single round on Tuesday. The event takes place at the par-72, 7,233-yard Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The 14-team field features Auburn, Coastal Carolina, Charlotte, Duke, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Furman, Kent State, Liberty, Louisville, NC State, North Florida and South Carolina.

Virginia’s lineup includes the same five golfers that placed third in UVA’s last outing at the Wake Forest Invitational. The group includes Ben James, Bryan Lee, George Duangmanee, Chris Fosdick and Devel Patel. Jaron Leasure will compete as an individual.

James and Lee tied for second at the Wake Forest Invitational at even par 210 playing Pinehurst No. 2. James leads the team with a 69.22 stroke average. He has placed in the top four in five of six tournaments this season.

The Cavaliers will tee off Monday from the 10th tee while paired with Liberty.

Last year the Cavaliers finished fifth at the event, shooting 4-under 860. Auburn captured first place at 839. UVA’s top finisher was Pietro Bovari, who claimed 17th place. He used bookend rounds of 70 to shoot 3-under 213.
