Scottie Scheffler’s going to need a bigger trophy case if he keeps this up.
After defending his title last month at the WM Phoenix Open, Scheffler claimed his sixth PGA Tour win over the last 13 months at the 2023 Players Championship on Sunday. The 26-year-old shot a 3-under 69 in the final round at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, largely thanks to a hot streak of five consecutive birdies to finish at 17 under for the tournament.
Scheffler chipped in from off the green on the par-3 8th hole to start his birdie fest and rattled off four more before cooling off with his second bogey of the day on No. 14 after a wayward drive. A handful of pars down the stretch sealed the deal on the win, which will propel Scheffler back to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking.
Tyrrell Hatton had a rare smile on the course on Sunday, and for good reason. The usually angry Englishman shot a 7-under 65 to climb into solo second at 12 under, with Viktor Hovland (68) and Tom Hoge (70) T-3 at 10 under.
