Rutgers Wraps Up Play in Day 1 of Briar's Creek Invitational


JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Rutgers women’s golf completed play on day one of the Briar’s Creek Invitational, with the team sitting in a tie for 12th place out of 16 following two rounds of play. The Scarlet Knights will tee off Tuesday morning at 8:45 for the final round of the event.

RU fired a 297 as a team in the first round, with Nicole Ewing’s even-par 72 leading the way on the individual end. The Scarlet Knights matched that with a 297 in the second round as well, with Lucrezia Rossettin shooting a 1-under 71 to lead them in round two. 

Overall,  Rossettin leads Rutgers with a 3-over 147 through two rounds, sitting in a tie for 35th on the individual leaderboard. Her second round was highlighted by six birdies, including birdies on three of her final four holes. 

 

“I got off to a slow start today, but was able to get my putter going in the afternoon,” Rossettin said. “I stayed patient throughout the day and was able to attack some pins. Tomorrow will be a good challenge for us to see what we can do out here.”

Ewing’s consistent day featured 27 total pars, tying teammate Rikke Nordvik for the fifth-most in the field. Nordvik’s 6-over 150 has her in a tie for 54th. 

Maeve Rossi rolled in four birdies in the first round and is tied for 61st place. Leigha Devine rounds out RU’s individual performers with an 8-over 152, putting her in a tie for 66th.
