Cantafio collects a top-10 finish at the 2023 Bandon Dunes Championship


BANDON, Ore. – Washington State junior golfer Jaden Cantafio collected his third top-10 finish of the 2022-23 season, as the Tustin, California native ended the 2023 Bandon Dunes Championship in a tie for eighth place on the player leaderboard after carding 1-over; 145 through 36 holes of play.

Golfers had to battle the elements all week long at the 2023 Bandon Dunes Championship, as the tournament was shortened to two rounds due to inclement weather. Monday’s second round was canceled due to standing water on the course, reducing the typically 54-hole tournament to 36 holes.

Washington State ended the Bandon Dunes Championship on a high note, as the Cougars carded 6-over; 294 during Tuesday’s final round to end the tournament in 14th on the team leaderboard. WSU ended its stay at the Bandon Dunes Golf Course by shooting 32-over; 608.

Cantafio paced the field on par-4 scoring, as the junior shot 4-under on par-4 holes. The Tustin, California native ended the 2023 Bandon Dunes Championship by shooting 1-under; 71 in the final round to end the tournament. Cantafio concluded the tournament at 1-over; 145 to finish in a tie for eighth place. It is the third top-10 finish for Cantafio this season, while it is his second-best finish at a tournament during the 2022-23 campaign.

Sophomore Nate Plaster shot even par; 72 on Tuesday, while senior Pono Yanagi carded 1-over 73 in the tournament’s final round. Yanagi’s performance on Tuesday helped him finish in a tie for 40th on the player leaderboard.

Oregon captured the team title at the 2023 Bandon Dunes Championship, as the Ducks shot 5-over; 581 as a team over two rounds of play at the Bandon Dunes Golf Course. Oregon’s Owen Avrit won the individual title after shooting 4-under; 140 over two days in Bandon.

The Washington State men’s golf team returns to action on March 30-April 1 when the Cougars head down to the Bay Area to participate in The Goodwin. The tournament, which is hosted by Stanford, will be played at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
