JOHN’S ISLAND, S.C. – The NC State women’s golf team collected its best finish of the season on Tuesday at the Briar’s Creek Invitational, highlighted by Lauren Olivares Leon tying for first place with a three-round score of 210 (-6).

The Pack ended the two-day tournament in a tie for fourth place with Penn State, finishing the week at 873 (+9) at the Golf Club at Briar’s Creek.

Olivares Leon’s week began with a round-one total of 68 (-4), building on a strong start with back-to-back rounds of 71 (-1) to close the week. Olivares Leon’s effort was enough to land in a tie for first, matching SMU’s Michelle Zhang at six-under par for the tournament.

Vania Simont additionally tallied a top 20 finish on the week, improving her score each round en route to a T15th finish. Simont began the tournament with a four-over 76 on Monday, then posting consecutive under-par scores in rounds two and three of 71 (-1) and 70 (-2), finishing the week at 217 (+1).

Natalie Armbruester and Isabel Amezcua each finished in a tie for 41st place at 224 (+8), while Caitlin Whitehead wrapped up her NC State debut with a score of 229 (+13).

SMU took the team crown, as three Mustang golfers finished in the top ten amongst the 90 individual competitors. SMU finished at 851 (-13) over three rounds, with its best score coming in the afternoon session on Monday at 278 (-10).

The Wolfpack will now shift its focus to the final regular-season contest of the 2022-23 campaign, as NC State will host the Wolfpack Match Play Apr. 3-4 at the Lonnie Pool Golf Course on NC State’s Centennial Campus. The Pack’s annual home event will precede the ACC Championships that are set to be held at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Apr. 13-16.
