STATESBORO, Ga. – The No. 24 Mississippi State men’s golf team is slated to participate in the 43rd annual Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Georgia, on March 17-19. In a field of 14 teams, the Bulldogs will compete on the par-72, 7,123-yard course of the Forest Heights Country Club for the three-day event.
The 13 schools that MSU will face include host No. 19 Georgia Southern, Army, Campbell, Florida Gulf Coast, Kentucky, Liberty, Middle Tennessee, North Florida, Notre Dame, UAB, UCF, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
“We are ready for this next step,” head coach Dusty Smith said. “The golf course is really going to test how tough and disciplined we are. We need to take what the course gives us and respect it. We need to be excited for this opportunity in front of us and go out there and compete to our standard.”
The starting lineup for the Bulldogs consists of Garrett Endicott, Ford Clegg, Ruan Pretorius, Hunter Logan and Austin Vukovits. Pedro Cruz Silva will compete as an individual.
Pretorius is coming off a championship at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate, where he led State to a team title while shooting a career-low 208 and finished 8-under. The team lineup is made up of the same five that won in Arizona earlier this month.
Endicott leads the team with a 71.33 stroke average, while Clegg (71.67) and Vukovits (71.93) are also averaging less than 72 strokes.
Vukovits will be the first player to tee off for Mississippi State at 9:30 a.m. CT, followed by Logan, Pretorius, Clegg and Endicott in nine-minute increments. Cruz Silva will start his first round at 9:48 a.m. CT.
