TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Purdue Women’s Golf dominated the par 5s at Seminole Legacy Golf Club, but a roller coaster day overall found the Boilermakers in sixth place after the opening round of the Florida State Match Up.

Purdue played the par 5s 6-under as a team to pace the field, which included eagles by Daniela Ballesteros and Ashley Kozlowski. Ballesteros was the leader in par-5 scoring on Friday, going 3-under on the long-distance holes.

The Boilermakers fired a 300 (+12) as a team, 13 shots off the lead held by host No. 12 Florida State (-1) and sitting in the middle of the 12-team field. Making 12 birdies as a team, Purdue has plenty of golf left to move up the leaderboard if mistakes are kept at a minimum.

Danielle du Toit shot 73 (+1) to lead the Boilermakers through the opening 18 holes. The super senior finished strong, going 3-under on her final eight holes that included four birdies in a six-hole stretch. On the individual leaderboard, du Toit sits in a tie for 10th.

Kozlowski and Kan Bunnabodee fired matching 75s (+3), tied for 19th to crack the Top 20. Starting on the back nine, Kozlowski birdied the par-5 11th before dropping a 30-footer for eagle on No. 14, her team-leading third eagle of the season. Adding a birdie at the 18th, she fired a 34 on the side to make the turn at 2-under before struggling to find any birdies on the front side. Meanwhile, Bunnabodee grinded out pars for most of the day, making 13 of them. She made the turn at level par and rattled off five straight pars to begin her final nine. A birdie at the sixth moved Bunnabodee into red figures, but a bogey on No. 8 and a triple bogey to finish her round dropped the Boilermaker down the leaderboard.

Ballesteros and Momo Sugiyama finished the team scoring, each carding a 77 (+5). An up-and-down final nine kept Ballesteros from producing a strong start, while a pair of double bogeys by Sugiyama hurt her opening-round score.

Purdue has 36 holes left to move up the leaderboard, starting with the second round Saturday morning. The start of the round was pushed back due to impending inclement weather. The Boilermakers tee off No. 1 alongside Kent State (+6) and Notre Dame (+28) beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
