TALLAHASSEE, FL. – The Fighting Irish women’s golf team traveled south for the Florida State Matchup where they finished in eighth place. “This week was a true test of golf on a championship caliber course. We made strides as a team with our course management and adapting to the varying conditions each day. We left a lot out there this weekend but I know this team has the ability to rebound and learn from it,” said Head Coach Caroline Ellis.
The Irish shot 318, 305, and 315 for a total 936 (+72) on the weekend. The matchup with Kentucky also landed the Irish in second place with a total of 1133 from both programs.
“These two spring break tournaments gave us good insight into what we need to work on these next couple weeks at home before our last regular season tournament and to prepare for the conference championship. We will continue to evaluate, practice hard, and push to get a little better each day.”
The first round saw the Irish shoot 316 as a team. They were led by Montgomery Ferreira who finished with a 77 on the first round, and Madelyn Jones who shot 78 as well. Ferreira and Jones were followed by teammates Lauren Beaudreau and Caroline Curtis who each shot 80 and 81, respectively. The matchup with Kentucky was also scored at 376 for the first round (70-73-73-76-84 = 376).
Round two saw a delay due to weather conditions in Florida, but that didn’t stop the Irish. Curtis led the way for the Irish as she finished just one over par shooting a 73. Teammates Ferreira and Beaudreau weren’t far behind as they both finished with a second round score of 77. Schiavone finished the day shooting 78 and Jones finished with a 79.
The final round of the tournament was led by Beaudreau for the Irish who shot 76 and finished tied for 33rd.
