No. 20 Alabama Holds One-Stroke Lead through 36 Holes of the Linger Longer Invitational


EATONTON, Ga. – The No. 20 Alabama men’s golf team continues to lead after 36 holes of play at the Linger Longer Invitational. The Crimson Tide’s team score of 8-under par 570 (283-287) is one shot better than No. 34 Georgia (-7) entering Tuesday’s final round.

Freshman Nick Dunlap holds the individual lead after 36 holes of play following his second round score of 6-under par 66. Dunlap’s two-day total of ­­8-under par 136 (70-66) is one shot better than Georgia’s Connor Creasy (-7). JP Cave is in a tie for sixth overall at 3-under par 141 (72-69), giving the Tide two inside the top 10.

Tuesday’s final round of the three-day, 54-hole event, hosted by Kennesaw State, is being be played at the par 72, 7,436-yard Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee.

Round Two Highlights

  • Nick Dunlap began his day with an eagle on the 556-yard second hole
  • He followed that with five birdies across his next 14 holes before a bogey on No. 17 resulted in his final total
  • Dunlap has now collected a team-leading 11 rounds in the 60s and 16 rounds of par or better
  • JP Cave finished the day with a bogey-free round that included three birdies
  • It was his third round in the 60s and fifth round of par or better this season, including second in the event
  • Thomas Ponder is in a tie for 22nd place at 3-over 147 (72-75)
  • Jonathan Griz is in a tie for 32nd at 4-over 148 (69-79), while Canon Claycomb is a shot behind in 35th with a 149 (72-77)
  • Jones Free, who is playing as an individual, is in a tie for 11th overall with an even par 144 (73-71)

Team Highlights

  • No. 20 Alabama (-6), No. 34 Georgia (-5) and No. 1 Vanderbilt (-4) are the only three teams in the 16-team field under par
  • No. 11 Georgia Tech (+1) is in fourth followed by Chattanooga (+8) to round out the top five teams
  • The Crimson Tide leads the field in par 5 scoring at -19 (4.53), eight strokes better than the next closest team, and three eagles
  • This marks the Tide’s 12th appearance in the annual event (five team championships)
